Lore's father built himself a crime empire. Then made the mistake of pissing off the wrong person.

Zane married Lore's sister and the girls' father didn't approve so he had his older daughter and -her- daughter killed and -tried- to kill Zane too. But he survived. Zane removed his father-in-law from power and Lyas rose to take his place. Lyas took his former master's youngest daughter and raised her as his own, teaching her to be a killer, an informant and whatever else he figured would make her useful to him.

Lore spent most of her time as Lyas' daughter, trying to block out the pain and sense that something was missing. During a lucid moment she told Lyas she was leaving, quitting the 'family business' Lyas flew into a rage telling her "you'll quit when you're dead. And that can easily be arranged." He came back later sobbing and carrying on about how she was the only daughter he had and how she meant the world to him. Lore, against her better judgement agreed to stay.

After he next assignment nearly killed her, Lore didn't even bother going back, she ran off into the forests and would have died there if Zane hadn't found her. He nursed her back to health and tried to set her on the straight and narrow. Lore made an honest effort, but she wasn't entirely ready for a change of lifestyle. Knowing she couldn't stay with Zane, she wordlessly disappeared and went free lance for a while.

Now Lyas has lost face, his business partners don't believe he can control his people anymore and his profts are taking a hit. Thus, he's decided, he needs Lore back.

Lyas is played by with some direction from me. And let me just say, she's superb at it.
